Today Hartley Botanic received a very special RHS medal for their first ever show garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Winning any medal is great, but the garden designed by Catherine MacDonald was deemed to be special enough for silver gilt, just one notch down from a gold!
The garden features Opus, a newly launched modern glasshouse in a matt bronze finish which highlights beautifully Hartley Botanic’s aim of celebrating their British engineered structures in a novel and forward thinking way.
Johnny Mobasher, Hartley Botanic MD said “I’m absolutely delighted and over the moon for both Hartley & Catherine MacDonald to have won such a prestigious Medal. This is tremendously encouraging especially for a 1st timer! I am also really happy that our glasshouse will be living on at Horatio’s Garden in Glasgow designed by James Alexander Sinclair, it’s important to me that elements of the garden can help to enrich the lives of those battling serious injuries at the Spinal injuries department of the QEH in Glasgow ”
Catherine is thrilled as this is her 3rd RHS medal win, she said, “I have been designing gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show for several years, but designing a show garden for Hartley Botanic for the first time has been a wonderful experience. Everyone in the team worked so hard, they were such a pleasure to work with. I hope I get to do it again!”
